Fall has officially arrived. We know cooler temperatures will arrive soon and before long everyone will testing out their heating system. We would like to share a few professional fall home comfort tips and recommendations. Starting with a few DIY tips. Fall is a great time to check your air filter to see if it needs replaced. Every central heating system should have an air filter. Most systems have a 1″ filter in the living space that should be replaced at a minimum of every 3 months, while other systems may have a 4-5″ filter at the mechanical equipment that need to be replaced every 6-12 months.
Second, check your thermostat settings. Many thermostats are programmable, and you may have them set to a summer schedule. This is a great time to create a fall/winter scheduler. Many thermostats also offer an automatic setting where you can set a cooling temperature if it gets too warm and a heating setting if it gets too cold. This is a great way to be comfortable in the fall living in North America.
Third, check for obstructions covering the air vents in your home. This will restrict the airflow and cause poor performance. You can also look for obstructions at the outdoor portion of your home if you have an Electric Heat Pump to make sure no limbs have fell blocking the fan blade and visually inspect flue pipe exhaust terminations on gas systems. Check for bird nest and wasp nest.
We would recommend having a professional from Bryant’s Heating and Cooling check the exhaust terminations if you have a central gas system. Ultimately, we would recommend scheduling a fall gas safety inspection or a fall maintenance. We are offering specials for our October maintenances and fall safety check! The gas safety inspection includes inspecting the heat exchanger on a central furnace system, inspecting the flue pipe, and a carbon monoxide check. It is critical to have a carbon monoxide (CO) detector in your home if you have a gas appliance or an attached garage. CO is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.
The Fall maintenance includes a specific comprehensive checklist whether it is a Heat Pump or gas system. Most manufacturers require annual/ seasonal maintenance for warranty purposes. If you would like to schedule an inspection or maintenance, please call us at: 256-273-5125.
